Advisory

Suspect arrested for attempting to ram a deputy

On June 24, 2020, at 1130, Kern County Sheriff's Office deputies received a Lo-Jack activation in the area of Bakersfield College regarding a stolen vehicle in the area.  Deputies circulated the area and located the vehicle (a Toyota 4-Runner) in an alley in the 1300-block of Shattuck Street, occupied by two subjects.  When deputies approached the vehicle, a female occupant was compliant and detained without incident.  The male suspect then fled in the vehicle down the alley, attempting to ram two deputies who were approaching in their patrol cars.  The deputies were able to take evasive action and avoided the suspect.
The suspect then led deputies on a 3-minute, high speed pursuit through east Bakersfield.  The suspect fled from the vehicle in the 2200 block of Robinson St, jumped a fence onto Hwy 178 and ran across Hwy 178.  Deputies conducted a search in the area with the assistance of the KCSO Air Unit and the BPD K-9 unit, but were unable to locate the suspect.
After an investigation, deputies were able to determine the suspect was George Lopez (36 y/o).  On Saturday, June 27, 2020, Lopez was located at his residence and arrested for charges including assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, resisting arrest, possession of a stolen vehicle and evading an officer.  Lopez was booked into the Central Receiving Facility.
