[Español abajo] A joint message from the chiefs of Fire and Police as you make plans for the holiday weekend:
 
In the wake of canceled public events, including local professional fireworks shows, we urge Santa Rosans to make safe choices as you look for other ways to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July.
 
While it may be tempting to use fireworks, remember that ALL fireworks are illegal in Santa Rosa and the surrounding unincorporated areas. Calls from our community reporting the use of fireworks on the days leading up to the holiday are on the rise. We’re urging those that are using them to STOP.
 
Enforcement teams from both the police and fire departments will be out patrolling areas and we will cite individuals violating the City’s fireworks ban. But please don’t let it get to that point.
 
Nationwide, more than 16,000 reported fires are started by fireworks annually. Wildland fires are a continuing threat in our community and earlier this week, portions of Sonoma County were included in the first Red Flag Warning of the year. Conditions remain dry and an evening of fireworks is not worth the risk to your community.
 
We are all accountable for doing our part to protect Santa Rosa from the threat of wildfire. Please keep this in mind as you make your plans for the holiday.

Un mensaje en conjunto de los jefes de Bomberos y Policía al hacer planes para el fin de semana festivo:
 
A raíz de los eventos públicos cancelados, incluyendo los espectáculos de fuegos artificiales profesionales locales, urgimos a los residentes de Santa Rosa a que tomen decisiones seguras mientras buscan otras formas de celebrar el 4 de julio que se acerca pronto.
 
Mientras que puede ser tentador usar fuegos artificiales, recuerde que TODOS los fuegos artificiales son ilegales en Santa Rosa y las áreas alrededor no incorporadas. Las llamadas de nuestra comunidad informándonos del uso de fuegos artificiales en los días previos al día festivo aumentaron. Urgimos a los que los están utilizando que PAREN.
 
Los equipos policiales de los departamentos de policía y bomberos estarán patrullando las áreas y darán infracciones a personas que desobedezcan la prohibición de fuegos artificiales de la Ciudad. Pero por favor no dejen que llegue a ese punto.
 
A Nivel Nacional, más de 16,000 incendios reportados son iniciados por fuegos artificiales anualmente. Los incendios forestales son una amenaza continua en nuestra comunidad y a principios de esta semana, partes del Condado de Sonoma se incluyeron en la primera Advertencia de Bandera Roja del año. Las condiciones permanecen secas y una noche de fuegos artificiales no vale el riesgo para su comunidad.
Todos somos responsables de hacer nuestra parte para proteger a Santa Rosa de la amenaza de incendios forestales. Tenga esto en cuenta al hacer sus planes para el día festivo.
