Van Buren Township Independence Day Fireworks
As we approach Independence Day, please take a moment to become familiar with the fireworks ordinance (specifically regarding the week of 4th of July) in Van Buren Township.
No person shall ignite, discharge or use consumer fireworks in the township, EXCEPT on the following days after 11:00 a.m. and in accordance with the Michigan Fireworks Safety Act, Public Act 256 of 2011, as amended:
- Jun 29 to Jul 4, until 11:45 p.m.
- Jul 5, ONLY if it falls on a Fri or Sat, until 11:45 p.m.
Commercial fireworks shall not be discharged in the township without a permit.
Fireworks shall not be ignited, discharged or used by:
(a) a minor;
(b) a person under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances or a combination of alcoholic liquor and a controlled substance; or
(c) on public property, school property, church property, or property of another person, without the organization’s or person’s written authorization to do so.
Any person who violates this section shall be deemed responsible for a municipal civil infraction and assessed a civil fine of $1,000 for each violation.
