On Thursday, July 2, 2020, at approximately 4:05 AM, the Sausalito Police Department received an alert from our License Plate Recognition cameras of a stolen vehicle entering Sausalito from the 4000 block of Bridgeway. The vehicle, a 2019 Audi, had been stolen from San Jose on June 9, 2020.

Sausalito Police Officers responded immediately and began to search for the Audi. At approximately 4:10 AM, Officer Honour Knudsen located the Audi parked in the 3000 block of Bridgeway. It appeared that the vehicle was occupied by three light skinned juvenile males. A few seconds after Officer Knudsen located the Audi, it speed away southbound on Bridgeway at speeds of approximately 75 MPH. Officers attempted to pursue the Audi but lost it as it turned off of Bridgeway and went into the hills.

The Sausalito Police Department, California Highway Patrol, and Marin County Sheriff’s Office searched for the Audi and at approximately 4:25 AM located it in the 100 block of Pearl Street. When Officers checked the Audi, they found it unoccupied but located a 9 millimeter Zastava handgun in the vehicle. As Officers searched the area on foot they discovered a 17-year-old male from Alameda hiding in the bushes in the 500 block of Spring Street. Further investigation by officers tied this juvenile to the Audi. The other two occupants of the Audi were not located during the search.

The 17-year-old was arrested for possession of the stolen vehicle, evading officers, and obstructing officers. He was booked into the Marin County Juvenile Hall. Further investigation is being conducted that may lead to additional suspects being identified and additional charges being filed. If you have any information regarding this incident, please contact the Sausalito Police Department at (415) 289-4170.
