Advisory

Additional Information Regarding Face Mask Citations

The COVID-19 infection rate is moving up in California.  The Governor has recently issued an Order for everyone to wear face masks while in public.  Since the onset of the pandemic, Sheriff Alex Villanueva in coordination with the City of West Hollywood and the West Hollywood Sheriff's Station have been educating the public about the order, and issuing both warnings and face masks to visitors and community members.  Beginning this month, we will continue to utilize education and persuasion and hand out face masks; however, we will begin issuing City of West Hollywood Municipal Code Citations to people who refuse to the follow the face mask order while in public.

The citation, which is administrative and not criminal, is $250 plus a fee of $50 for a total of $300 for the first offense.  Our very last option is to conduct enforcement by issuing a citation, but the risk to community health is too great.  To date, we have not issued any citations and we still hope not to.

As always, we will do our best to enforce all laws without bias, using good judgment and common sense.  We respectfully ask our community to please wear a face mask while in public in an effort to control the spread of the virus and keep everyone healthy.
