Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of June 22-28

Notable Cases

On Monday, 06-25-20 at approximately 10:07 a.m., Officer Digiacomo and other officers were dispatched to the intersection of Lakeshire Drive and Southgate Avenue on a report of an indecent exposure that occurred on Lakeshire Drive near Mariposa Avenue. The reporting party, a 46-year old Daly City resident, said he was walking his dog when he heard someone ask why he was walking his dog. When the reporting party turned to look to see who made the comment, he said he saw a subject pull down his pants and expose himself to him. The reporting party described the subject as a white male, 30 years old, skinny build, wearing green or blue medical scrubs and a red hat. While Officer Digiacomo was speaking with the reporting party, a second report of an indecent exposure came from another reporting party, an on-duty firefighter, who said he told the subject to pull up his pants. A 16-year old was contacted at the scene, and he said he wanted to report his skateboard was stolen from a brick planter box in front of his residence. A short while later, Serramonte Shopping Center security reported the subject matching the description and carrying a skateboard was on a Sam Trans bus. Officer Tualaulelei detained the subject so that he could conduct a field show with the first reporting party. Officer Digiacomo arrested the suspect, a 25-year old San Francisco resident, for indecent exposure, possession of stolen property (skateboard) and for a parole violation.

On Tuesday, 06-23-20 at 3:39 a.m., officers were dispatched to Celia’s restaurant on a report of a male inside of the restaurant who was seen on camera rummaging through the cash register drawers. Several officers and a K-9 arrived and gave several announcements that they were in the restaurant. Officer Shoopman opened a refrigerator door and saw a subject inside, with his back to the officer. Officer Shoopman detained the subject and found a window punch in the subject’s pocket and an iPad belonging to the restaurant in the subject’s rear pants pocket. The dispatchers advised that the subject, a 29-year old San Bruno resident, was on parole for burglary and had two outstanding warrants for burglary. The San Mateo County Jail would not accept the subject because of COVID-19, and he was released. This case will be sent to the District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

On Wednesday, 06-24-20 at approximately 7:15 a.m., officers arrested a 29-year old Daly City resident for prowling after he was seen crawling on to the victim’s doorstep and looking through the glass door. The suspect was also seen attempting to access a front door of the victim’s next-door neighbor’s residence. This occurred on the unit block of Mission Circle.

On Friday, 06-26-20 at 6:50 p.m., subsequent to a traffic stop at the intersection of DeLong Street and John Daly Boulevard, Sergeant Moala cited a 49-year old San Francisco resident for possession of methamphetamine and a fake identification card from Washington State.

On Friday, 06-26-20 at 9:44 p.m., a 36-year old South San Francisco resident was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and for driving with a suspended driver's license. This occurred following a traffic collision on the 300 block of Chester Street.

The 50-year old victim told the officer that he had finished grocery shopping and had parked his vehicle on the 900 block of St. Francis Boulevard at 11:15 p.m. The victim said he was in his vehicle talking on the phone when an unknown male walked up to his vehicle and pointed a gun at his head. The victim said the suspect told him to “give me your money, give me everything you got.” The victim told the suspect he would give him everything, and then he said the suspect struck him in the face with a pistol, described as being black and 6-7” in length. The victim described the suspect as a black male, 20-30 years old, 5’10 or 6’0, skinny build, wearing athletic/sporty clothing like a track suit. The victim gave the suspect his cellphone and his wallet containing $300, credit cards, a driver's license, social security card, and miscellaneous cards. The victim said after the incident, he was heading to the Police Department to report the crime but realized he had his groceries in his trunk and wanted to put them into his house. Community Events/Information

Fourth of July

To celebrate this holiday as safely as possible, we want to remind you that fireworks are illegal in Daly City. This includes the “safe and sane” types that are sold in nearby cities. On the days leading up to each 4th of July, as well as the actual day and after, fireworks are one of the biggest causes of fires and injuries throughout the United States. Let’s keep our City safe and free from any potential disasters—the potential for fires is enormous.

The Daly City Police Department personnel will be on an enforcement detail looking for people using fireworks. People in possession of or using any fireworks will be subject to a citation/arrest by an officer. This includes fireworks that are purchased from another city. People who choose to shoot guns into the air will be booked into the San Mateo County Jail.

For pets and some people, especially Veterans suffering from PTSD, this is a very scary day. The loud firework noises scare the pets and for the veterans, the sounds may bring back traumatic memories. Please do what you can to make sure everyone stays indoors and stays comfortable.

In California, it is a misdemeanor to possess illegal fireworks. This could be punishable by a fine of not less than $500, and no more than $1,000 or by imprisonment in a county jail for up to one year. The Daly City Police Department takes this very seriously. In addition, parents may be held liable for any damages or injuries caused by their children’s use of illegal fireworks.

We know there will be illegal fireworks, and we do try our best to respond to all requests of fireworks use. When reporting illegal fireworks, please do NOT call 911, but instead use the police business line (650) 991-8119. Tying up 911 lines for non-emergencies, especially with the volume of calls on July 4th, places lives in danger.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
