MORE THAN JUST A DISPATCHER – MORE LIKE AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER
We’ve got COM 1, COM 3, the fire dispatch and fire command channels. Dispatchers do a lot more than just answer 911 calls!
Our dispatchers fill many roles. They are 911 call takers and they relay call information to our police officers and firefighters in the field.
On this day, Monica was busy on COM 3 – our police service channel. On this channel she was assisting officers with towing cars, checking for warrants, running criminal history checks, and so much more! In a way, the COM 3 dispatcher must be a detective of sorts. They research information to help officers with their investigations.
Our dispatchers work multiple channels and handle multiple tasks at the same time…and they do so knowing the safety of police officers, firefighters, and the community may be at stake. Sounds a bit like an air traffic controller, right? Please join us in thanking them for their service.
