Sebastopol Police respond to overdose call.
On Sunday, 7/5/2020, Sebastopol 911 dispatch received a call of a possible narcotic overdose at a local hotel.
Officers from the Sebastopol Police Department arrived at approximately 1002 hours and gained access to a hotel room, where a male subject was unresponsive. The subject had bloody foam coming from his mouth, was blue in the face, and was displaying agonal breathing.
Intravenous drug paraphernalia and other indicators of drug use were in plain view nearby, and officers determined that the man was likely suffering from an opiate overdose.
Sebastopol Police Department officers have been trained in the use of Naloxone, commonly known as Narcan, an opioid antagonist agent that is designed to rapidly reverse the effects of an overdose.
A Sebastopol Police Department officer administered a 4mg dose of Narcan at approximately 1004 hours. Minutes later, the man was conscious and alert, and was transported to the hospital by paramedics.
As a reminder, Sebastopol Police Department officers regularly respond to medical calls in the town of Sebastopol, and have been trained in life-saving measures.
If you or someone you know is suffering from a drug addiction, there are resources available to help you. We encourage anybody in this situation to seek help, as too often we see results like the above incident, which could have had a much different ending if not for the training and experience of our officers.
