On July 4th, 2020, at about 10:00 am, Kern County Sheriff’s Office deputies assigned to the Delano Substation were on patrol in the area of Elmo Highway and Davis Avenue, in the city of McFarland. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by Robert Ortiz (34) for vehicle code violations.
During the investigation, it was discovered Ortiz’ driver license was suspended. A search of Ortiz revealed he was in possession of a small amount of suspected methamphetamine. A search of the vehicle revealed Ortiz was in possession of a Glock 9mm handgun, with a fully loaded magazine. A records check of Ortiz revealed he was prohibited from possessing firearms. Ortiz was arrested and booked into the Central Receiving Facility for various weapons and narcotics charges, as well as driving on a suspended license.
