Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 06-30-20 at 8:12 p.m., Officer Hightower and Officer Leyson were dispatched to the area of Alta Vista Way and Oakridge Drive on a report of three unknown male juveniles looking into vehicles. Officer Hightower found three subjects who fit the description the reporting party gave and asked them where they were coming from. Other officers arrived and stood by the subjects while Officer Hightower spoke with the reporting party. The reporting party/victim showed the officer the damage to his vehicle and advised there were miscellaneous coins taken from the coin drawer. Officer Hightower was immediately flagged down by another victim who said his vehicle was broken into, and miscellaneous change was missing. A third victim flagged down the officer and also reported that his vehicle was broken into, and he was missing money. The three juveniles, a 16-year old Daly City resident and two 15-year old Daly City residents, were arrested for auto burglary and were released to their legal guardians. A complaint will be sought for prosecution.

On Friday, 07-03-20 at 10:17 p.m., Officer Gill and Officer Jackson-Berrios were dispatched to the 2600 block of Geneva Avenue on a report of a just-occurred strong-armed robbery. The reporting party said she was parked in her vehicle and saw approximately six adults between 18-20 years old who grabbed a man and took his phone and what she believed to be a wallet. The reporting party decided to intervene and said she drove her vehicle toward the subjects and yelled that she was going to call the police. The reporting party said the six subjects all began running across Geneva Avenue and up Pasadena Street towards San Francisco. The 22-year old victim said he was walking home from the 7-Mile House in Brisbane, and as he walked past the Cow Palace, he said he felt as if he was being followed. The victim said he turned around and saw six black males walking behind him, and then suddenly they started running. The victim said four of the subjects grabbed him from behind and wrapped their arms completely around him. The victim said they pushed his torso down on the ground while the other two subjects rummaged through his pockets. The suspects stole $160, and a cellphone from the victim. This case is under investigation.

On Saturday, 07-04-20 at 9:42 p.m., Officer Greene and Officer Sunga were dispatched to a call for medical service at the bus stop at Lake Merced Blvd and Southgate Avenue. Officer Sunga arrived to find a male subject who was profusely bleeding from his head. The subject/victim was heavily intoxicated and told the officer he walked from Joe’s of Westlake after having dinner with his girlfriend. He said he was walking back to the bus stop when three Hispanic male subjects walked up to him and jumped him. The victim, a 50-year old Daly City resident, said at first, he did not know if anything was stolen from him. The victim was transported to the hospital where he received staples to his scalp. Officer Greene re-interviewed the victim who said the suspects had stolen his cellphone and $800 earrings he had purchased for his girlfriend. The victim described one male as a black male, approximately 20 years old, black hair, two stud earrings, wearing a red Nike shirt, and black skinny jeans. The victim described the other subject as a mixed-race male approximately 19-20 years old, with an unknown neck tattoo and a 4” cross tattoo on his right forearm, wearing a white tee shirt, black hoodie, blue jeans and white Adidas shoes. While the officers were responding, the dispatcher advised that a female caller said her husband had just assaulted his parents. The 39-year old son was subsequently arrested for false imprisonment and elder abuse after he forced his parents into the bathroom and would not let them leave. The son strangled his 64-year old mother and forced his 72-year old father’s head into the toilet. The son was a convicted felon, and officer searched the subject’s property. The subject had a loaded firearm without a serial number, as well as a large capacity magazine, and an “M80” ammo in the subject’s duffle bag. Scams/Other

Amazon Package Scam

On Wednesday, 07-01-20 at 10:30 a.m., Officer Hepler took a report from a 54-year old Daly City resident regarding a theft by false pretenses. The victim told the officer that she has received several packages over the last few weeks left in front of her door or in the lobby of her apartment building on the 300 block of Half Moon Lane. The victim said she contacted what she believed to be an Amazon support line that she located on Google. The victim told the officer that she explained to several different people that she was receiving packages and did not order them. She was told that ultimately her Amazon account had been hacked by unknown suspects, and in order to relieve the debt and fix the problems with Amazon, she would need to purchase $6,000 in gift cards, which she did. She told the officer she went to the nearby CVS pharmacy and purchased approximately a dozen gift cards and later called back and spoke someone who told to scratch off the access codes and provide them to him. The victim later figured out that she had been victim of a scam.
