Advisory

Coyote Activity Reported in the Rimer Drive Area

At around 7:45pm tonight, coyote activity was reported in the Rimer Drive neighborhood in Moraga. A small coyote was observed approaching a person on foot and then running toward a bicyclist. No one was bitten or injured in the incident. Moraga police officers and Animal Services officers responded to the scene and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife was also notified.  The coyote was last seen running away into an orchard in the area.

Please remember that coyotes are wild animals and their behavior is unpredictable. If you are followed by a coyote, make loud noises. If this fails, throw rocks in the animal’s direction. Be aware of your surroundings when outdoors and do not leave small children or pets unattended.  Special care should be taken at dusk and dawn when coyotes are known to be more active.

Please see the attached brochure on coyote safety, including tips on how to reduce the potential for coyote conflicts. More information can also be found at www.keepmewild.org.
