Sheriff Richard J. Behnke, reports that on 07/12/2020 at approximately 2300 hours his office was called to investigate a personal injury crash that occurred in the 18900 Block of US 12, Mason Township, Cass County Michigan. Dnequo Oshae Slater, 19 y/o resident of Elkhart, IN, was driving westbound on US 12 when he lost control of the vehicle due to speed. Mr. Slater left the roadway and struck culvert causing the vehicle to go airborne. Mr. Austin suffered unknown injuries and was transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital by Edwardsburg Ambulance. The passenger, Makayla Renee Mcinnes, 19 y/o resident of Edwardsburg, MI was also transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Seatbelts were worn and alcohol does not appear to be a factor. This case remains under investigation.
