Felon arrested with a stolen handgun in Santa Rosa.
Yesterday afternoon, deputies arrested a woman after finding a stolen handgun and bullets in her purse.
On July 12 at approximately 3:50 p.m., dispatch received a call about a physical fight between two women in the 3000 block of Santa Rosa Avenue, Santa Rosa. The caller stated one woman was trying to drive away in an SUV and the other woman was blocking the car with her body to prevent it from leaving.
Deputies responded and found two women in an SUV matching the description from the caller. The suspect, later identified as Amanda Vanraalte, 40, transient, was in the passenger seat. As deputies were speaking with the women, they learned that Vanraalte may have a gun on her, according to the caller. Deputies positively identified Vanraalte and learned she was on probation. They detained her and searched the SUV, as allowed by her probation terms. They found a revolver and five bullets inside a purse in the car. After finishing their search and speaking with Vanraalte, deputies determined the gun belonged to Vanraalte.
Vanraalte was booked into the Sonoma County jail for the following felonies: receiving stolen property, felon in possession of ammunition, felon in possession of a gun, and a felon carrying a concealed weapon. She is being held on $30,000 bail.
