Subject: OWI Arrest

On Tuesday, July 14th at 3:37am, officers with the Sun Prairie Police Department responded to the BP Gas Station at 9 Tower Dr. for a report of a subject passed out in his vehicle. 23-year-old Gairitt G. Schad was the occupant of the vehicle. While in contact with officers, Schad attempted to drive away while the officers were trying to get him out of his vehicle. Officers were in the vehicle as Schad pressed down on the accelerator. Officers were able to get out of the vehicle. Schad drove a short distance and abandoned his vehicle on Tower Dr. Schad fled the area on foot.

With the assistance of the Dane County Sheriff’s Office K-9, Schad was taken into custody in the nearby neighborhood. Schad had an active parole warrant through the department of corrections. Schad was also charged with 3 counts of 2nd degree Recklessly Endangering Safety, Resisting Arrest, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Flee/Eluding an Officer and 1st Offense OWI.

Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
