County Amends Health Order in Alignment with State of California
Indoor Operations at Fitness Centers, Worship Services, Malls, Personal Care Services Ordered to Close Immediately

Manhattan Beach, CA (July 14, 2020) - Following Governor Gavin Newsom’s announcement to shut down various indoor industries in response to surging Coronavirus cases, the County of Los Angeles has revised its public health order requiring the closure of the indoor operations of the following sectors until further notice:
  • Gyms and Fitness Centers;
  • Places of Worship;
  • Offices for non-essential businesses or non-critical infrastructure sectors as defined by the County and State;
  • Personal Care Services (including nail salons, massage parlors, and tattoo parlors);
  • Hair Salons and Barbershops; and
  • Indoor Malls (businesses that are part of an indoor mall may remain open so long as they are accessible by the public from the exterior of the mall).

Effective immediately, these businesses must close indoor portions of their operations. All businesses must abide by all reopening protocols as well as applicable State regulations. The Order is intended to further limit the spread of COVID-19 and is viewable on the County and City's website.
Reopening protocols and guidelines regarding face coverings and physical distancing must be adhered to during all outdoor operations.

Businesses wishing to apply for permits to operate dining and retail uses outdoors on private property can apply for an Outdoor Facilities Permit at the City’s website, or contact [email protected] for more information.

Los Angeles County is reporting increases in community spread of COVID-19. Currently, there are 2,103 people hospitalized, substantially higher than the 1,350 to 1,450 daily hospitalizations seen four weeks ago. In Manhattan Beach, positive coronavirus cases have increased from 86 cases on June 13 to 208 cases on July 14, representing a 140% increase over a month.

It is the community’s shared responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19. By adhering to social distancing, wearing face coverings, being safer at home, hand washing, and avoiding crowds, confined spaces, and close contact, we can collectively mitigate future surges in coronavirus cases.
