ONTARIO POLICE SEEING INSTANT RESULTS WITH LPR CAMERAS
The Ontario Police Department recently installed new measures to fight crime by partnering with Flock Safety, an Atlanta-based tech company. 24 license plate reading (LPR) cameras were placed throughout the city of Ontario and activated just a few weeks ago, providing instant results.
Since the Flock cameras went live, the Ontario Police Department has been able to safely recover 14 stolen cars and make arrests in each of those cases. One particular case involved the apprehension of a carjacking and kidnapping suspect out of the Los Angeles area. Investigators have also used the information provided by the cameras to identify, locate, and apprehend a suspect believed to be responsible for several thefts and recovered over $7,000 in stolen property.
Flock Safety built the first LPR camera specifically for neighborhoods, with privacy-first policies. The footage is securely stored in the cloud and automatically deletes after one year on a rolling basis. The cameras are not used for traffic enforcement and there is no facial recognition technology.
