Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of July 6-12, 2020

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Tuesday, 07-07-20 at 6:28 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence on the 300 block of 2nd Avenue on a report of a robbery. The dispatcher initially advised that the reporting party sounded out of breath and mentioned something about a gun. The dispatcher then updated and said the reporting party’s brother reported three guys, all armed with guns, were previously inside the residence but had already left the residence. One of the victims, a 39-year old Daly City resident, said he lives in the lower unit, and his other family members live in the upper area. The victim said at approximately 6:20 a.m., he was leaving for work, and as he unlocked the front metal gate, he said three subjects dressed in all black clothing and wearing masks pushed their way into the foyer. The victim heard the subjects yelling but could not understand what they were saying, except for, “Get down…I need cash”. The victim said the subjects held him down as he was in a squatting position and took his wallet from his pants pocket and keys from his belt loop. The victim said his mother heard the commotion and opened the door to the lower unit. The victim said the subjects then made their way into the lower unit. The victim said one of the subjects kicked a bedroom door open, pointed a gun at the victim’s wife and demanded cash. The victim said the two other subjects took an iPad and an iPhone from the living room and got cash from the victim’s wife. The victim said he heard the two subjects walk up the stairs and bang on the door, but shortly after, the subjects ran back down the stairs. Another family member ran down the stairs while another family member called the police. The victim had a slight bump and dried blood above his left eye and wasn’t sure if one of the subject’s hit him or if the metal gate hit him when the subjects forced their way into the foyer. The victim described the three subjects as possibly black or Hispanic males, medium builds, 5’10”, 180 lbs., all wearing black hooded sweatshirts, black pants, black gloves and black masks. The victim said they were all carrying black handguns similar to a .9 mm semi-automatic caliber. This investigation is continuing.

On Tuesday, 07-07-20 at approximately 8:11 p.m., Officer Angeles and Officer Reininger responded to the Dollar Tree store on Mission Street on a report of a fight between two male adults. A witness said he was at the cash register paying for his merchandise when he overheard a male raising his voice stating, “Give me my space of six feet”. The 44-year old witness said he turned around and noticed a black male and a Hispanic male who were standing six feet apart. The witness said the black male kept repeating names to the other subject and, suddenly, the suspect turned around and, with a closed fist, struck the victim in the face, causing his right eye to bleed. The witness said the suspect said, “This is what happens when you do not give me space.” The witness said the subject continued to yell profanities at the victim after he punched him. The witness said the suspect realized how many people were watching and opened his juice and threw it toward the cash register. The witness said the suspect then hurriedly exited and headed southbound on Mission Street. The witness described the suspect as a black male in his 40’s, 5’11”, 180 pounds, with a large star tattoo on the right side of his neck. He was wearing a black beanie, black pants, and a black sweater. The victim, a 50-year old Daly City resident, was transported the hospital to be treated for a laceration to his face and a possible concussion. The officers were unable to locate the suspect.

On Wednesday, 07-08-20 at 5:10 p.m. Officer Angeles and Officer Graner were dispatched to the Chipotle restaurant on a report of a subject who was harassing customers. The manager reported that a male subject was asking customers to buy him food. A customer bought him a quesadilla, but the suspect refused to leave after getting the food. The manager called the security guard who told the subject to leave and that panhandling was not allowed on the restaurant property. The 23-year old security guard said the subject became angered by the comments and threw chairs in the restaurant. The security guard said that as the subject was yelling in his face, a bit of the subject’s spit landed in his left eye. The security guard followed the subject outside the parking lot and called for police. The security guard said the subject then turned around and punched him in the lower lip. The subject continued walking, and the security guard waved down Officer Graner. Officer Graner asked the subject to stop, and the subject refused. The subject, a 40-year old San Francisco resident, was subsequently arrested for resisting arrest, battery, being under the influence of a controlled substance, presenting a false ID to a peace officer, and for an outstanding warrant for narcotics violations. The security guard had no visible signs of injury.

One of my readers of this bulletin asked about Fireworks calls and how many we received. From June 1 to July 14, our dispatch center received 231 calls regarding illegal fireworks. As of this writing, I do not know how many fireworks were confiscated or if any citations were made.
