License Plate Recognition Camera Hit Results In Arrests For Possession Of Stolen Vehicle, Methamphetamines, And Burglary Tools.
On Friday, July 17, 2020, at approximately 8:17 PM, the Sausalito Police Department received an alert from our License Plate Recognition Cameras of a stolen 2019 Nissan Sentra entering Sausalito from the 4000 block of Bridgeway. The Nissan had been reported stolen out of Vallejo earlier in the day.
Sausalito Police Officers immediately responded and conducted a comprehensive search of the area. Officer Honour Knudsen located the Nissan at approximately 8:19 PM and a traffic stop was affected in the 800 block of Bridgeway. Officers removed and detained the driver, Nicole Gandy (38-year-old resident of Vallejo) and the passenger, Daniel Mcinerney (49-year-old resident of Benicia) without incident. Inside of the Nissan, Officers discovered approximately 28 grams of suspected methamphetamines and tools commonly used to commit burglaries.
Gandy and Mcinerney were arrested and booked into the Marin County Jail for possession of the stolen vehicle, methamphetamines, and burglary tools.
Since the City of Sausalito’s License Plate Recognition Camera program became operational on Thursday, May 18, 2017, thirty-six (36) stolen vehicles have been recovered and forty-three (43) individuals have been arrested for various crimes. The goal of the License Plate Recognition Camera program is to increase public safety by utilizing technology to alert Law Enforcement to wanted vehicles, enhance post-crime investigative abilities, and deter crime by increasing the likelihood of suspect identification.
