KCSO responds to drowning in the Kern River
On July 18, 2020, at 7:05 p.m., the Kern County Sheriff's Office received a phone call of a possible drowning in the Kern River, off of Hwy 178 and Cow Flat Rd. Deputies responded along with Search and Rescue and the Air Support Unit. Deputies learned a male subject was last seen swimming in the Kern River when he disappeared below the water. A search was conducted, but the victim was not located.
On July 19, 2020, at approximately 9:30 a.m., Search and Rescue members were continuing their search for the missing man when they located a subject under the water near that location. A male subject was pulled from the water, deceased. This is the same area where another male went missing last week. At this time, it is unknown if the missing male located today is the one reported missing last night or from last week. His identity will be released by the coroner's office at a later time.
