KCSO arrests suspect for attempted murder and weapon charges

On July 19, 2020, at 6:10 a.m., the Kern County Sheriff’s Office received a call in the area of Arlington St and Height St for a shooting which had just occurred.  Deputies learned a male had exited a residence in the 2300 block of Arlington St and fired several shots into a vehicle, which was driving away.  Deputies responded to the address and located Andrew Torrez (22 years old) at the residence and detained him.
Shortly after that, two victims arrived at a local hospital.  The victims knew Torrez, and he assaulted them at the residence.  As they were fleeing the residence, Torrez began shooting at their vehicle with a rifle.  One victim had been grazed by a bullet and the other had been pistol whipped.  Both victims were in stable condition.
Deputies wrote a search warrant for the residence and located multiple firearms, high capacity magazines, ammunition and over 1 lb of heroin.  Torrez is a gang member and has a prior felony conviction.  Torrez was arrested for multiple felonies, including attempted murder, assault with a deadly weapon and other weapon and drug charges.  Torrez was booked into the Central Receiving Facility.
