INCIDENT: Deal Police Officers Save Four Swimmers caught in Rip Current
OFFICERS INVOLVED: Sgt Brad Kerney, Ptl Zach Bell Ptl Tyler Redy, Officer Aaron Pingitore, Officer Asadullah Kakar, and Deal First Aid Member Joseph Greenstein
NARRATIVE:
On July 19, 2020 at approximately 1823 hours Sgt Brad Kerney, Ptl Zach Bell, Ptl Tyler Redy, Officer Aaron Pingitore, and Officer Asadullah Kakar were dispatched to Hathaway Ave Beach for a report of 4 swimmers in distress. Deal Fire Department and Deal First Aid Squad were also dispatched and responded to the scene.
Upon arrival all officers involved along with Deal First Aid Member Joseph Greenstein entered the water without hesitation and swam out to the victims. This incident occurred right next to the Hathaway Ave jetty rocks which increased the dangers for all involved. Officers were successful in removing all 4 victims from the water and brought them safely to shore for evaluation.
Following the incident one officer and two swimmers were transported to the hospital with injuries. All injuries are minor and everyone is expected to recover.
