Two subjects were arrested following a short pursuit for narcotics violations and no bail warrants

INCIDENT: PC - 2800.2(a) - Evading with disregard for public safety, HS 11378 - Possession of controlled substance for sale, HS -11377(a) -Possession of controlled substance, HS - 11352(a) Transport/sell narcotics

SUSPECT(S): Thomas Huerta, 30 years old, resident of San Bernardino
Lisa Smith, 34 years old, resident of San Bernardino
SUMMARY:
On July 16, 2020, at 11:00 a.m., deputies from the Sheriff’s Central Station, assigned to the San Manuel Casino, conducted a traffic stop on a black Nissan Altima in violation of California Vehicle Code 4000 (a)(1), Expired Registration and California Vehicle Code 26708, Window Tint. Deputies initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver, later identified as Lisa Smith, refused to pull over and continued to drive south on Victoria Avenue at approximately 70 MPH.
Smith stopped the vehicle on 18th Street when the front passenger, later identified as Thomas Huerta, got out of the vehicle and took off running. Deputies chased Huerta and were able to take him into custody. A search of Huerta was conducted and two large baggies of suspected crystallized methamphetamine, a working digital scale, multiple clear plastic baggies and a large denomination of money was located.
School Police officers continued the chase of Smith, who eventually stopped her vehicle on East 21st and Valencia Avenue. A third passenger was in the vehicle but was released in the field.
After investigating, Huerta was found to be an active gang member and was arrested for an active warrant, Possession of a controlled substance for sale, Transportation/sell narcotics and Gang enhancement. Huerta was booked into Central Detention Center and is being held without bail (no bail warrant).
Smith was arrested for Evading with disregard for public safety and booked into Central Detention Center. She is being held without bail (no bail warrant).
