PG&E making low level helicopter flights over Marin July 21 - 27
Beginning today,Tuesday, July 21, PG&E will be using helicopters to fly over the electric power distribution lines throughout Marin County. These flights are designed to help PG&E improve its Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS) program by making those events smaller in size, and shorter in length for its customers. If you see or hear a low level helicopter in your area, there is no need for concern or to call 9-1-1
The pre-PSPS flights are designed to gather information that helps PG&E to understand the amount of time it takes to safely complete the patrol. In addition to improving overall safety, the pre-inspections help crews execute future patrols more efficiently and provide key information to better determine timing for restoring electric service to customers.
PG&E will be using Bell 206 L3 and Bell 407 helicopters for these flights. They will fly low, roughly 100 feet, along distribution lines in San Rafael, Olema, Ignacio, Las Gallinas, Novato, Sausalito, Greenbrae, Woodacre and Bolinas. Flights are scheduled from July 21 through July 27, Monday through Friday, but not necessarily every day. Flight times are between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. They will arrive and depart from the Novato Airport. The flights are dependent on weather and other factors and the schedules are subject to change.
POWER WILL NOT BE INTERRUPTED DURING THESE PRE-INSPECTIONS
