On 6/9/2020 the Lakeport Police Department and Clearlake Police Departments were awarded a $24,975 grant from the California Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) to enforce alcohol-related crime and educate their communities on alcohol-related laws. On 7/21/2020 the Lakeport City Council approved a resolution to accept the grant funding and go into partnership with ABC.
The Grant was awarded to the departments after they submitted a joint grant application to ABC through ABC’s Alcohol Policing Partnership Program (APP). The funds awarded by this grant will allow the agencies to increase their efforts in proactively reducing alcohol related criminal activity such as: alcohol sales to minors, alcohol sales to obviously intoxicated people, and driving under the influence. Grant funds will also be used for the agencies to implement educational programs such as LEAD (Licensee Education on Alcohol and Drugs) training. The departments are hoping to host two local LEAD trainings that will be announced at a later time and will be contingent upon whether or not such gatherings will be permissible under COVID-19 restrictions. If the departments are unable to host a LEAD training locally due to COVID-19, ABC will provide the training online.
The funds awarded by the Alcohol Policing Partnership Program are entirely funded by alcohol license fees from the alcoholic beverage industry.
The Lakeport Police Department and Clearlake Police Department look forward to building partnerships through the APP Program with our communities and reducing alcohol related criminal activity in our cities.
