The National Weather Service in Sterling Virginia has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for... Anne Arundel County in central Maryland... Northwestern Calvert County in southern Maryland... Prince Georges County in central Maryland... Northeastern Charles County in southern Maryland...

* Until 500 PM EDT.

* At 404 PM EDT, severe thunderstorms with a history of producing wind damage were located along a line extending from near Fairland to Marlow Heights to near La Plata, moving east at 20 mph. HAZARD...Damaging wind gusts up to 70 mph and isolated hail up to quarter size. SOURCE...Observed wind damage and doppler radar. IMPACT...Damaging winds will cause some trees and large branches to fall. This could injure those outdoors, as well as damage homes and vehicles. Roadways may become blocked by downed trees. Localized power outages are possible. Unsecured light objects may become projectiles.

* Locations impacted include... Baltimore, Waldorf, Bowie, Severn, Annapolis, Clinton, Crofton, Fort Washington, Elkridge, Riviera Beach, Forestville, Largo, La Plata, Mayo, Shady Side, Chesapeake Beach, Deale, Naval Academy, Prince Frederick and Upper Marlboro.

* AFFECTED AREAS: CALVERT, MD ... CHARLES, MD ... ANNE ARUNDEL, MD ... PRINCE GEORGES, MD

This is a DANGEROUS SITUATION. These storms have a history of producing widespread wind damage. SEEK SHELTER NOW inside a sturdy structure and stay away from windows! Large hail and damaging winds and continuous cloud to ground lightning is occurring with these storms. Move indoors immediately. Lightning is one of nature's leading killers. Remember, if you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning.
