The Hesperia Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating a fatal vehicle vs. motorcycle collision

DATE/TIME: July 19, 2020 / 12:08 p.m.

INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Amargosa Road and Key Pointe Drive, Hesperia

INVOLVED DRIVER: David Beckwith, 38 years old, resident of Crestline (deceased)

SUMMARY:

On July 19, 2020 at approximately 12:08 p.m., deputies from the Hesperia Station, along with rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department, responded to the area of Amargosa Road and Key Pointe Drive in reference to a two-vehicle traffic collision. Deputies arrived on scene and located a red and white, Honda CBR 600 motorcycle in the eastbound lane of travel on Amargosa Road and a white, Ford Flex in the southbound lane of travel on Key Pointe Drive. The rider of the motorcycle, David Beckwith, was transported to the Desert Valley Hospital but died from his injuries sustained during the collision. The driver of the Ford Flex was not injured and remained at the scene.

The Hesperia Station Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) responded to the scene and assumed the investigation. Preliminary findings suggest the rider of the motorcycle was traveling eastbound on Amargosa Road, approaching the intersection of Key Pointe Drive. The driver of the Ford Flex was traveling westbound on Amargosa Road, approaching the intersection of Key Pointe Drive. The driver of the Ford Flex proceeded to make a left turn to travel southbound on Key Pointe Drive when the motorcycle and the rider collided with the passenger side of the Ford Flex.

The westbound and eastbound lanes of Amargosa Road were closed from Cataba Road to Key Pointe Drive until approximately 5:06 p.m., while investigators processed the scene and collected evidence. At this time, alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factor in the collision.

The collision remains under investigation and any witnesses are asked to contact Deputy J. Bray from the Hesperia Station
