Face Covering required by order of Governor Evers. Effective Aug 1st-Sept 28, 2020

Today Gov. Evers issued Executive and Emergency Orders on required face coverings in Wisconsin.  The City of Wisconsin Dells strives to keep our residents, businesses and visitors informed and safe at all times.  Please take a few minutes to read over these requirements and prepare yourself and your family at this time.  The following documents, Executive Order #82, Emergency Order #1 & Face Covering FAQs, are also attached for you.  Below is a release from Sauk County Public Health.

Good afternoon everyone. Governor Evers has declared a Public Health Emergency (Executive Order #82) as a result of the increased COVID activity and risk across the state.

The Governor has also issued Emergency Order #1 based on the above declaration of public health emergency. The Order requires face coverings to be worn inside and in enclosed spaces by most people age 5 or older. A list of exceptions includes:

  • In your private residence.
  • Indoors when no one else is present.
  • While eating or drinking.
  • When communicating with an individual who is deaf or hard of hearing and communication cannot be achieved through other means.
  • While obtaining a service that requires the temporary removal of the face covering, such as dental services.
  • While sleeping.
  • While swimming or on duty as a lifeguard.
  • While a single individual is giving a religious, political, media, educational, artistic, cultural, musical, or theatrical presentation for an audience, the single speaker may remove the face covering when actively speaking. While the face covering is removed, the speaker must remain at least 6 feet away from all other individuals at all times.
  • When engaging in work where wearing a face covering would create a risk to the individual, as determined by government safety guidelines.
  • When necessary to confirm the individual's identity, including when entering a bank, credit union, or other financial institution.
  • When federal or state law or regulations prohibit wearing a face covering.

There are also a small number of individual exemptions to this requirement, including:
  • Children between the ages of 2 and 5 are encouraged to wear a mask when physical distancing is not possible. But are not required. The CDC does not recommend masks for children under the age of 2.
  • Individuals who have trouble breathing.
  • Individuals who are unconscious, incapacitated, or otherwise unable to remove the face covering without assistance.
  • Individuals with medical conditions, intellectual or developmental disabilities, mental health conditions, or other sensory sensitivities that prevent the individual from wearing a face covering.
  • Incarcerated individuals.

The face covering requirement is effective as of 12:01 am, Saturday, August 1, 2020 and will expire on September 28, 2020 unless superseded.

A press release from the Governor’s Office is here.

An FAQ document can be found here.

More information will be sent out soon with opportunities for people to get face coverings if they do not yet have them. In the meantime, there are resources and instructions for making your own face covering on the Sauk County Public Health website.

Wear a face covering and be safe. Thank you. Tim
