Alert

Coastal Flood Warning until 02:00AM Wednesday

* WHAT...One to two feet of inundation above ground level is likely in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline, with potentially locally 2 to 3 ft of inundation in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline.

* WHERE...In Connecticut, Southern Fairfield, Southern New Haven, Southern Middlesex and Southern New London Counties. In New York, Southern Westchester County.

* WHEN...From 10 PM Tuesday to 2 AM EDT Wednesday.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread flooding of vulnerable areas is expected near the waterfront and shoreline, including roads, parking lots, parks, lawns, and homes and businesses with basements near the waterfront. Numerous road closures are likely, and vehicles parked in vulnerable areas near the waterfront will likely become flooded. Flooding will also extend inland from the waterfront along tidal rivers and bays.

* SHORELINE IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 4 to 7 ft will result in beach erosion, some damage possible to shoreline structures, and wave splashover over bulkheads and seawalls.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is still uncertainty on when the peak surge arrives. This forecast is based on a worst case scenario, with a 2-3 ft surge coming in at the time of high tide Tuesday Night. If the surge peaks earlier, then water levels and inundation will be less than forecast.

* AFFECTED AREAS: SOUTHERN NEW LONDON ... SOUTHERN MIDDLESEX ... SOUTHERN WESTCHESTER ... SOUTHERN FAIRFIELD ... SOUTHERN NEW HAVEN

Instructions:

Take the necessary actions to protect flood-prone property. If travel is required, do not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
