SHERIFF VICTOR HILL Creates Elite Traffic Enforcement Unit (BLACKHAWKS) To Curb Vehicle Fatalities!

While crime is steadily going down in Clayton County, vehicle related fatalities have been rising.   Commisioner Franklin-Warner who is fighting for side and cross walks on Tara Blvd sits on the G.D.O.T.  board (Georgia Department Of Transporation).  Commissioner Franklin-Warner stated data indicates Tara Blvd is now one of the most dangerous state routes in Georgia.

The increase in vehicle related fatalities on Tara Blvd and Interstate 75 caused by excessive speed and DUI’s started the conversation of getting the Sheriff’s Office involved in traffic enforcement.  The conversation was further stimulated when the Sheriff himself was struck by a DUI driving at an excessive speed on Tara Blvd.  However, the final straw was last week when Sheriff Hill responded to vehicle fatality on Tara Blvd where a speeding intoxicated driving in the opposite direction of traffic killed a mother of three, and severely injured an off duty Clayton County Police Officer.  Thus began the order of the Sheriff to create the elite traffic enforcement team named  “Blackhawks”.

Blackhawk’s first order of buisness will be to slow down speeders on Tara Blvd and Interstate 75, however, their overall mission will be threefold.  First and foremost will be strict traffic enforcement to slow dangerous speeders down and take DUI’s off of the streets to reduce the rising rate of fatalities.  Blackhawk’s mission will also include drug interdiction and car thief reduction.

With only 1 week in operation, the elite Blackhawk unit has already begun to make its mark on Clayton County.  The units  first interdiction stop of a 2020 Dodge Ram with a Uhaul Trailer yielded 226 bags of Marijuana vacuum sealed inside of brown boxes weighing 271lbs with a street value of 600K.  Suspect Armando Medel was taken into custody in this case and is currently still facing the wall.

Angel Ramirez became Blackhawks first street racer/drifter poster child.  When Blackhawk units pulled up on Ramirez and his friends drifting behind the Arrowhead shopping center, Ramirez took off at a high rate of speed jumping a curve and running a red light.  Unable to escape, Ramirez was caught and taken into custody a couple of miles down Tara Blvd.  So far Blackhawk units have written 189 tickets, made 23 arrests, recovered 2 stolen cars, and taken 5 guns out of the hands of criminals their first week in operation!

Let the word go forth to those who speed, drink and drive, transport drugs, and steal cars that from this moment on, it will would be wise to take 285 around Clayton County to avoid the Blackhawks!
