Northfield Twp Police handled 593 calls for service this month
07/02/2020 *Identity Theft –Unemployment Fraud
5200 Block of Hellner – A complainant reported that she received a verification letter from the Michigan Unemployment Agency. The complainant believes someone used her identity to file an unemployment claim. At the time of the report, the complainant had no monetary losses. She was advised to notify the state, to report the fraud to the Federal Trade Commission and to monitor her credit report.

07/02/2020 * Reckless Driving
5600 Block of Whitmore Lake – A complainant reported that a newer Red Chevy Camero was observed doing donuts and causing black marks to the newly surfaced parking lot. If anyone has information regarding this incident they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police
07/07/2020 *Arrest – Fugitive Warrant – Probation Violation
U.S 23 and N. Territorial – An Officer on patrol observed a speed violation and upon stop of the vehicle discovered the driver was wanted on a warrant. The driver was arrested, turned over to the jurisdiction holding the warrant, and the vehicle was impounded. Additionally, suspected marijuana was confiscated, and charges are pending lab results.
07/09/2020 *Arrest – Driving on a Suspended/Revoked License
Main St & N Main – An Officer on patrol observed a motorcycle bearing an outdated plate. Upon stop of the vehicle, the driver could not produce a registration, did not have insurance and did not have a valid license. The driver was arrested and the vehicle impounded.
07/11/2020 * Hit & Run Water Crash
7700 Block of Lakeshore –A complainant reported that on July 7 a witness observed an unknown pontoon boat, occupied by three adults, strike a water trampoline and cause some damage. If anyone has information regarding this incident they are asked to contact Northfield Twp. Police.
07/09/2020 *Fraud
A victim reported that after receiving an ATT/Directv promotional call, she accepted an offer and was instructed to pay for the program using EBay money cards. When the victim was later offered a life time option and she attempted to buy several hundred dollars in gift cards, the store clerk advised her that it was probably a scam. The investigation revealed the promotion was most likely an international scam.
NEVER MAKE ANY PAYMENT WITH GIFT CARDS --- NO LEGITIMATE COMPANY WOULD ASK FOR THIS FORM OF PAYMENT.
07/15/2020 *Arrest – Operating while Intoxicated
U.S 23 & 6 Mile Rd – An Officer on patrol observed a speeding vehicle and upon stop of the vehicle could recognize signs of intoxication. The female driver of the vehicle further displayed signs of intoxication while performing sobriety tasks. The driver was arrested, the vehicle impounded and the driver consented to a blood draw. The case is awaiting the lab results.
07/15/2020 *Larceny of Registration Tab
Anna Drive – A complainant arrived to the station to report that someone had recently removed his 2020 registration tab from his license plate. No suspects or witnesses were available at the time of the report.
07/18/2020 *Larceny
300 Block of E. N Territorial – A complainant reported that after making a purchase he left his wallet on the counter. Upon return to the establishment, the wallet was missing. The Officer investigating the incident was able to identify the suspect involved in the theft. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office awaiting charges.
07/23/2020 *Fraud
9200 Block of Main St – After purchasing fuel the complainant believes he had additional unauthorized charges added to his credit card. The investigation was unfounded regarding these charges. The complainant will monitor his credit account to determine if such charges occurred.
07/23/2020 *Hit & Run
4000 Block of Seven Mile – A complainant reported that when she stopped her vehicle to make a turn into a driveway, a green Chevrolet truck which had been following closely behind, pulled into the oncoming lane of traffic and then swerved into her vehicle striking the left front quarter panel. The driver believes the truck purposefully struck her vehicle. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police.
07/23/2020 *Criminal Sexual Conduct
- A victim reported that they had been sexually assaulted while they took a bath at an acquaintance’s hotel room. The investigation identified the suspect, both parties were interviewed and the case was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office awaiting Criminal Sexual Conduct 2nd degree charges.
07/24/2020 *Harassment
– A complainant reported that after engaging in an on line friendship and then meeting the friend. The complainant has been receiving messages that things would be revealed about her through social media The case remains under investigation.
NTPD Warns Social Media Users to be cautious when communicating and sharing personal information with unfamiliar, casual acquaintances.
07/25/2020 *Larceny (Theft without Force)
200 Block of Apple Blossom Ct – A victim reported that on 07/24 at approximately 11pm he loaded fishing gear in his open boat, which was parked in his driveway. At 8:30 am 7/25 the victim discovered his fishing equipment missing from his boat. If anyone has information regarding this theft, they are asked to contact the Northfield Twp Police.
07/27/2020 *Attempt Fraud
Emerald Circle – A complainant reported that he received a phone call from an unknown caller advising him that someone made a fraudulent purchase using his debit/credit card. The caller had the complainant sign into his account via the computer and then the caller took control of the computer. The complainant realized the call was a fraud when an excessive “reimbursement” was entered into his account and the caller instructed the complainant to correct the problem by purchasing American Express gift cards. The complainant did not proceed any further and advised the bank of his compromised account.

07/28/2020 *Assault
9100 Block of Wildwood – A complainant reported that while she was having a conversation in a vehicle, a homeowner became upset with the headlights shining in her home. An argument ensued and the homeowner slammed the car door on the complainant, causing injuries. Officers were able to locate and identify the suspect and the case has been forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for review.
07/28/2020 *Arrest – Driving on a Suspended License 2nd Offense
Main & N. Main – An Officer on patrol observed a traffic violation and upon the traffic stop, the driver could not produce a license or insurance. The Officer determined the driver was suspended and the vehicle was not insured. The driver was arrested, the plate confiscated and the vehicle impounded. The case has been forwarded to the prosecutors’ office awaiting final charges.
07/29/2020 *Arrest –Wanted Fleeing & Eluding Suspect - Felon in Possession of a Firearm
Coyle Rd – An officer investigating a property damage accident, discovered the driver was wanted by a local jurisdiction. Officers further discovered a firearm in the vehicle which was confiscated. The subject was arrested and turned over to the jurisdiction pursuing initial charges. A warrant request was forwarded to the prosecutor’s office for the firearm charges.
07/29/2020 *Fraudulent Unemployment Claim – Identity Theft
8400 Block of Kearney – A complainant reported that she received notice that an unknown suspect filed for unemployment benefits using her identity. The complainant has not determined monetary losses and has advised her employer of the fraudulent claim.
07/31/2020 *Arrest – Fugitive Warrant
Front & Butternut- An Officer on patrol investigated an occupied suspicious vehicle and discovered the driver was wanted on outstanding warrants. The driver was arrested and his work vehicle legally parked. The subject was turned over to the jurisdiction holding the warrants.
