UPDATE: HOMICIDE
On August 4, 2020, at approximately 1:03 a.m., Turlock Police Dispatch received a call of an aggravated assault in progress in the 500 block of Twentieth Century Boulevard.
Officers arrived on scene and located a female inside a vehicle who had been struck by gunfire. The victim, Amythest Rochelle Cortez, 27 years of age, resident of Gustine, was shot and transported to a local hospital. As a result of the gunshot injury, Amythest and her unborn child, succumbed to their injuries and died this afternoon. The next of kin have been notified and our condolences go out to the family for their loss.
Turlock Police Department Detectives are investigating this tragic incident and are actively working on leads discovered in the investigation. Due to this being and active investigation, no additional information will be provided at this time.
