Fair Haven Storm Update - Thursday, August 6, 2020

Dear Fair Haven Residents: The latest storm update, as follows:

  • As of 8:30 AM today, JCP&L is still showing 93% of Fair Haven without power, which is the same percentage they consistently reported yesterday.   However, I do know that we have crews in town; additionally, we have had residents reporting service restoration since we sent out yesterday’s update.  Borough officials continue to maintain contact with JCP&L management and crews on the ground.

  • As far as when your individual power will be restored, JCP&L reported that residents will begin to see more individualized estimated times of restoration (ETRs). Yesterday, residents were given a global ETR of 8/11/2020 at 11:30PM. This simply marks when JCP&L expects to have 95% of customers impacted by the event back online.

  • JCP&L also reported that thousands of workers were brought in prior to Tropical Storm Isaias, and they will have 1,300 line workers arriving today, which brings the total over 5,000 utility personnel working to restore power as quickly and safely as possible.

  • Please stay away from downed wires. Assume all wires are live and do not approach. Report all down wires to police dispatch at 732-747-0991. If you see sparking from any wire, please call Police Dispatch immediately at 732-747-0991.

  • Please do not drive around cones. We have some areas blocked off due to threat of fallen trees or other hazards that may not be obvious. For your safety, please avoid these areas.

  • Please dial 9-1-1 for emergency assistance only.

  • Fair Haven Public Works crews have been actively removing trees, branches, and debris where it is safe to do so. We are aware that there are areas of town that are still impassible; please be assured we are coordinating all efforts to clear the roads as soon as possible.
  • For those residents who do not have any issues with downed wires, please have your storm related brush to the curb by Sunday evening, August 9th.  Our brush cleanup crews will be working to clear streets, in an orderly fashion, once they have completed emergency cleanup operations.

  • The Fair Haven Police Department and our Office of Emergency Management, under the direction of Chief Joe McGovern, are working nonstop to address the many ongoing issues in the aftermath of this storm.

  • The Borough has opened our Community Center, located on Fisk Street behind the Police Department, as a charging and cooling station.  Please note that you must wear a mask and social distance within the building.  Additionally, due to Covid-19 regulations, the capacity of the building is 25 persons, so please limit your time if there are other people waiting to use the building.

  • The Borough’s regular trash pickup schedule for Thursday and Friday has not been modified due to this storm. All collections will take place as scheduled, provided your area is safe to access due to current conditions.

  • Due to the volume of storm debris on Borough streets, Bulk trash pickup that was scheduled in Zones 3 and 4. for Monday, August 10th has been POSTPONED.

  • The August bulk pickup for Zones 3 and 4 has been RESCHEDULED for Monday, August 17th

  • If you are not already signed up for the Borough call out / email notification system, please do so by calling Borough Hall 732-747-0241 x *219 or by visiting our Borough website www.fairhavennj.org and type ‘Constant Contact’ in the search bar.
