STORM DEBRIS
Thank you to all of the residents who brought their storm debris to the Conservation Center today. As a reminder, the Center is now open to all residents, with no permit required, through August 16. The expanded hours are Tuesday through Friday, 8:30AM - 2:30PM, and Saturday and Sunday from 9:00AM - 3:00PM. Please be ready to show proof of residency if you are not a seasonal permit holder.
I want to clarify some confusion about damage to/debris from Town trees that have fallen on Town property, which remains the responsibility of the DPW and not individual property owners. While the DPW continues to work through the many requests to attend to Town tree issues from the storm, the best way to get your request processed is to use the Westfield Connect app, which allows you to track the progress of your report and provides a much more efficient work flow process for our crews. Please know that it will likely take weeks to get to every request, but you can help our dedicated DPW employees by using this app -- again, for issues with Town trees only -- so that they can best organize and prioritize their response teams accordingly. In addition to the many issues the DPW addressed today, Public Works Director Greg O'Neil held more than 30 individual appointments to meet with residents and assess related damage.
I’d like to close by acknowledging the many acts of kindness that I have seen over these past days -- including neighbors loaning generators, cooking meals, helping with debris, and looking out for one another. I was contacted this morning by a resident who was concerned for some vulnerable neighbors on her block who remained without power. After Chief Battiloro dropped by and secured the area for utility work, the resident reached out to the Rotary Club -- who partnered with Outta Hand Pizza to provide meals for the members of the block. I know this is one of many stories of community and generosity -- thank you all for doing your best to look out for each other!
