An Important Message from Mayor Lucarelli

A message from Mayor Ben Lucarelli

August 7, 2020

Tropical Storm Isaias has caused extensive damage on a scale somewhere between Sandy and Irene. The damage from Isaias is different from Sandy in that Sandy effected the Distribution System and Isaias has ravaged the Transmission system. Although we do have numerous issues with the local distribution system many of us will have power restored without seeing a truck. The reason is that power feeding the boroughs five circuits has been disrupted.

I have been working very closely with JCP&L’s Office of Government Relations to advocate on behalf of all Haven residents. Starting today, we should see substantial restoration with more customers coming online thru the weekend.

We have much to be thankful for. Our First responders have been very busy answering calls, many for Carbon Monoxide alarms. Our DPW has done an outstanding job clearing the streets. Our Police Department has been vigilant keeping us safe managing our intersections and keeping in touch with our most vulnerable residents. The Staff at Borough hall has been very busy addressing residents’ concerns.

Please be mindful:

·       If you are using a generator, follow proper procedures keeping the exhaust away from and windows or vents. Make sure your CO detector and Fire alarms have fresh batteries.

·       Exercise extreme caution around any downed wires as they may become energized by a generator that has been improperly installed.

·       When out on the streets be mindful that there may be damaged branches that could fall. Always look up when in a heavily treed area.

·       If your electrical service connection from your house to the utility pole has been disconnected, you may need to have a licensed electrician prepare the connection point for JCP&L to reconnect too. This work does require an electrical permit, which will be issued under emergency protocols. The electrician can sign a permit waiver and get you powered up. Required paperwork can be filed after the fact and all fees will be waved, except for a very small State required DCA fee

Be Well and StaySafe,

Mayor Ben Lucarelli
