JCP&L Storm Restoration Information
During significant storm events JCP&L secures any known hazards (downed wires for example) first – usually by sending out Hazard Responders to keep the area clear. They are not trained to make repairs. They are there to help keep the public safe until repairs can be made.
When major storms occur, JCP&L works to restore customers as follows:
Fair Haven Storm Update # 3 - 08-07-20
Fair Haven Storm Update # 3 - 08-07-20
Dear Fair Haven Residents: The latest post-storm update, as follows:
- On behalf of Mayor Lucarelli and the Borough Council, I want all Borough residents to know that we understand your frustration regarding the ongoing power outage, particularly since Fair Haven still has one of the highest percentages of outages in Monmouth County. I realize that JCP&L sending out regular reports showing increases in the percentage of statewide restoration is little comfort to anyone who is still without power. I have included JCP&L’s latest Storm Restoration Update at the end of this message.
- The majority of the Borough’s storm outage can be attributed to damage to the substation and transmission lines that service our local power grid. The revised Estimated Time of Recovery (ETR) for Borough residents who have a power outage due to substation issues is 11:30 PM tonight. Once the substation has been powered up, the Borough will have the ability to work with crews within town to help restore power due to downed lines. I have full confidence in our Borough personnel’s ability and professionalism. They will go above and beyond to do whatever they can to help our residents.
- Fair Haven Public Works crews have been actively removing trees, branches, and debris where it is safe to do so. We are aware that there are still streets in town with downed trees and wires; however, all major roadways are passible and alternate routes to all Borough residencies and businesses have been established, in case we need to reach a location in an emergency.
- You will see our DPW crews out this weekend working overtime to help in the post-storm restoration efforts. Please make sure that you remind your children to avoid areas where heavy equipment is in use throughout the town.
- The Fair Haven Police Department and our Office of Emergency Management, under the direction of Chief Joe McGovern, are working nonstop to address the many ongoing issues in the aftermath of this storm. Chief McGovern is a seasoned veteran in storm preparation and restoration, so I know we are in very capable hands.
- I can also assure you that our all-volunteer Fire and First Aid Departments are steadfastly dedicated to this Borough, no matter what challenges present themselves. Their selfless actions and ongoing availability to help this community are so welcome and appreciated. This Borough could not function without them and we all owe them all our thanks and recognition.
- The Borough has opened our Community Center, located on Fisk Street behind the Police Department, as a charging and cooling station. Please note that you must wear a mask and social distance within the building. Additionally, due to Covid-19 regulations, the capacity of the building is 25 persons, so please limit your time if there are other people waiting to use the building.
- For those residents who do not have any issues with downed wires, please have your storm related brush to the curb by Sunday evening, August 9th. Our brush cleanup crews will be working to clear streets, in an orderly fashion, once they have completed emergency cleanup operations.
- Please do not try to clean up brush if you have any downed lines on or near your property. We will give all residents ample time to clean up your storm related brush, once the power has been fully restored.
- The Borough’s regular trash pickup schedule for next week will not been modified due to this storm. All collections will take place as scheduled, provided your area is safe to access due to current conditions.
- Due to the volume of storm debris on Borough streets, Bulk trash pickup that was scheduled in Zones 3 and 4. for Monday, August 10th has been POSTPONED.
- The August bulk pickup for Zones 3 and 4 has been RESCHEDULED for Monday, August 17th.
- Please stay away from downed wires. Assume all wires are live and do not approach. Report all down wires to police dispatch at 732-747-0991. If you see sparking from any wire, please call Police Dispatch immediately at 732-747-0991.
- Please do not drive around cones. We have some areas blocked off due to threat of fallen trees or other hazards that may not be obvious. For your safety, please avoid these areas.
- Please dial 9-1-1 for emergency assistance only.
- It is vitally important that you continue to report your individual outage directly to JCP&L, at least once a day. You can do so over the phone, 1(800) 662-3115, via text - type ‘REG’ to 544487 (LIGHTS), or through their website, https://www.firstenergycorp.com/jersey_central_power_light.html
- If you are not already signed up for the Borough call out / email notification system, please do so by calling Borough Hall 732-747-0241 x *219 or by visiting our Borough website www.fairhavennj.org and type ‘Constant Contact’ in the search bar.
- We will continue to provide updates as we receive them. We understand the challenges this situation presents and will continue to work on your behalf to help restore full services. If anyone needs assistance, please call Borough Hall at 732-747-0241 x *219 and we will do our best to provide you with information and support.
In closing, if you have any Borough related questions, or concerns, please email me at [email protected] and I assure you that I will respond to you as soon as practical.

- Priority is given to hospitals, police and fire departments and other critical facilities.
- First repairs are made to transmission lines and substations that supply power to the local system.
- Next, we make repairs that restore the largest number of customers - this is the fastest way to restore all customers.
- JCP&L understands that customers with well water face additional challenges when power is out. Water and ice are available to customers without service due to the storm. For a list of locations, visit http://www.firstenergycorp.com/storminfo and click on "water and ice locations."
- When operating a generator, the power coming into the home should always be disconnected to protect workers making repairs to electric lines.
