Date / Time Occurred: August 7th, 2020 at 8:16 p.m.
Location: Tice Valley Blvd. near Rolling Hills Dr.
On 08/07/2020 at approximately 8:16 p.m., the Walnut Creek Police Department received reports of a brush fire on a hillside approaching a commercial building in the area of Tice Valley Boulevard near Rolling Hills Drive. A witness described a person running from the fire just moments after it started. Officers saw a subject hiding behind a bus stop. Officers contacted the subject and identified him as Kyle Shields, a 37 year old homeless person. After further investigation officers arrested Shields for Arson.
There were no injuries and minimal damage to the hillside and an unoccupied commercial building. Contra Costa County Fire Protection District Arson Investigators and Walnut Creek Police Department Investigators are working in conjunction to further investigate this crime.
