VICTIM(S): Trevor Heasley, age 21, resident of Apple Valley
Deputy Sheriff assigned to Apple Valley Station
SUMMARY: On August 8, 2020, at about 8:00 p.m., Deputy Cody Dare responded to the 18500 block of State Highway 18 for a report of a vandalism. The reporting party, Trevor Heasley told Sheriff’s dispatch a subject, later identified as Anton Mitchell, threw a rock at a Pizza Hut delivery vehicle which broke the window. When Heasley drove away, Mitchell ran after Healsey.
Deputy Dare found Mitchell sitting on the curb and went to speak with him, however when Mitchell saw Dare, he ran away. Dare chased Mitchell a short distance, before he stopped, appearing out of breath from the run. As Dare approached Mitchell to take him into custody, Mitchell suddenly turned and punched Dare in the chest. Dare used his department issued taser to subdue Mitchell and he complied with Dare’s commands and was taken into custody without further incident.
Due to Mitchell’s erratic behavior, both before and after Dare’s contact with him, paramedics from the Apple Valley Fire Protection District and American Medical Response arrived to provide medical aid. They determined Mitchell needed additional care and he was transported to an area hospital for further treatment. Once cleared, he was booked at the High Desert Detention Center for the above charges.
Mitchell was found to be on felony probation, or Post Release Community Supervision (PRCS), for felony evading. PRCS is the Public Safety Realignment legislation imposed by Assembly Bill 109 to reduce the prison population in the State of California.
