Police Chief Arrests Carjacking Suspect
On Tuesday, August 11th, around 6:40 am, San Leandro Police Chief Jeff Tudor was in the area of Peet's Coffee when he was notified of an attempted carjacking that had just occurred. Witnesses informed the Chief that the suspect had fled on foot after a failed attempt to start the victim's car.
Chief Tudor promptly located the suspect a few blocks away and coordinated arriving patrol officers in taking the suspect into custody.
The victim, an elderly San Leandro resident, was violently pushed to the ground while the suspect grabbed her car keys and wallet from her person. Thankfully she was uninjured during the attack.
"Moments after finishing his workout and making his way to get coffee for his staff, we are grateful that Chief Tudor was in the area and took swift action to apprehend the suspect," said Lt. Khan.
The suspect, a 20-year-old male from Oakland, was transported to Santa Rita Jail for booking.
