Animal Control Seek information in Animal Abuse Case
HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – August 13, 2020– Hollister Police Animal Care and Services is seeking information regarding a cat that was shot with a pellet gun on July 26, 2020.
On August 7, 2020 Animal control officers were contacted by a citizen whose cat was shot by a pellet gun on July 26, 2020; sometime between the hours of 10:00am and 12:30pm in the Powell and C Street area. The owner of the cat did not witness the incident but had found the cat near its residence with several bloody wounds. The cat was taken to a local veterinary clinic where two pellets were located and removed surgically. Thankfully, the cat is expected to make a full recovery.
Intentionally inflicting injury or causing pain or suffering to an animal can be charged as a felony crime. A conviction for felony animal abuse is punishable in state prison for up to three years.
