Dedication of Street Sign to Honor Hero Deputy Steven Belanger

On Thursday, August 13, 2020, Sheriff Alex Villanueva, along with Mayor Cory Moss, Mayor Pro Tem Cathy Marcucci from The City of Industry, Mayor Pro Tem Eric Ching and Councilmember Nancy Tragarz unveiled the newly affixed street sign in memory of Deputy Steven Belanger.

During the course of his patrol duties, on December 10, 1994... Deputy Belanger was struck by gunfire when ambushed attempting to take a violent assault suspect into custody. Deputy Belanger valiantly fought to live with a bullet lodged in his brain but ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

The City of Industry and Walnut graciously arranged to have the street “Marketplace East” located in front of Walnut/Diamond Bar Station changed to “Deputy Belanger Way.” Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station is grateful to both the City of Industry and Walnut for the hard work and effort that it took to make this happen.

Deputy Belanger’s sacrifice will always be remembered and his family will always be part of the Walnut/Diamond Bar Sheriff’s Station family.
