City of Folsom to Open Cooling Center During Heat Wave
The City of Folsom will open a cooling center during a stretch of extreme triple-digit heat Friday, August 14 through Wednesday, August 19. The 48 Natoma Senior & Arts Center, located at 48 Natoma Street in Folsom, will be open from Noon to 7 p.m.
A cool, air-conditioned space will be provided at the cooling center managed by the Folsom Fire Department and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers. The California Department of Public Health guidance for cooling centers on COVID-19 will be followed, including screening for temperature and symptoms, wearing masks, cleaning and disinfecting commonly used surfaces, and maintaining physical social distancing.
Additional cooling centers throughout Sacramento County will be open during this time due to expected higher than average temperatures. Due to impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, many cool air spaces that the public can typically use to escape the heat, such as community centers, libraries, and other public areas with air conditioning, are closed in accordance with State and County of Sacramento public health orders.
