City of Commerce, Calif. – 1 driver was arrested for DUI and additionally charged with an outstanding DUI arrest warrant, while conducting a DUI checkpoint on Friday, August 14, 2020.
The checkpoint was held on Telegraph Road, east of Washington Ave., from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m.
2 drivers were cited for operating a vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended/revoked license, 1 vehicle was towed. 2 drivers were arrested for other criminal charges. 1 driver was arrested for possession of a controlled substance and was additionally charged with an outstanding DUI arrest warrant. Another driver was arrested on an arrest warrant for vehicle theft.
Checkpoint locations are based on a history of crashes and DUI arrests. The primary purpose of checkpoints is not to make arrests, but to promote public safety by deterring drivers from driving impaired.
As businesses continue to reopen, including bars and restaurants, impaired driving remains a top traffic safety concern.
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department will continue to hold DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints throughout the year.
