On Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 2:11 PM, the Middleton Police Department responded to a residence in the 4100 block of Redtail Pass, which is situated adjacent to Highway Q, for a report that bullet holes had been found in some of the home’s interior walls. The home is currently vacant and the damage was discovered by a real estate agent.

Responding officers determined that the home had been struck from the outside by four rounds. Three bullets entered the residence through exterior walls, while a fourth struck a wood deck post on the front of the house. Several sheets of drywall and doors were punctured and one round was recovered on the living room floor. No injuries were reported. It is believed that this incident is related to a shots fired call received by our department on August 5, 2020, when multiple callers reported hearing up to four gunshots in the area of this residence and along Highway Q.

This incident highlights a disturbing trend seen locally in Dane County of increased reports of shots fired calls. Just in the past two weeks, our department has received three credible reports of gunshots being heard, when we typically may see that number in an entire year. These investigations are ongoing.
