Rolling Blackouts Likely Due to Power Demands During Hot Weather

The Town has been notified that PG&E will be doing rolling blackouts this evening due to high power demands that exceed the capacity of the statewide system.  MORAGA IS CURRENTLY NOT ON THE LIST OF AFFECTED COMMUNITIES.  This can change depending upon the power situation.

However, if all of us conserve energy and collectively reduce demand, these rolling blackouts can be alleviated...and you can reduce your PG&E bill!  Here are some ideas:

  • Turn your thermostats to 78 degrees or higher.  Use a fan instead of your air conditioner.
  • Turn off lights and appliances that are not needed.
  • Unplug appliances that are not in use as some of them still draw energy, even if not in use.
  • Postpone using your washer and dryer until after 10:00 pm.
  • Use blinds or curtains to block direct sunlight from shining inside and warming the air.
There are many other ideas out there, but if we all save some energy, it can make a big difference and potentially eliminate the possibility of Moraga being subjected to rolling blackouts in the future.

For more information about how to save energy or questions about your utilities, go to www.pge.com.
