Deceased: 44-year-old female, resident of Hesperia
SUMMARY:
On August 14, 2020, at approximately 8:55 p.m., Deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department were dispatched to a three-vehicle traffic collision in the area of Escondido Avenue and Sultana Street. Emergency personnel arrived and found three vehicles severely damaged; a white Acura TL, a blue GMC Yukon and a grey Honda CRV. The San Bernardino County Fire Department had to extricate the occupants of the GMC and a 44-year-old female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene. The male driver of the GMC and a female juvenile passenger were airlifted to Loma Linda Medical Center and are currently in critical but stable condition. The 29-year-old driver of the Acura was also pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Honda CRV was not injured.
Through investigation, it was determined the Acura was traveling northbound Escondido Avenue at a high rate of speed. For reasons still under investigation, the Acura crossed into the southbound lanes and collided with the GMC and Honda CRV. The condition of the roadway was inspected and there was nothing found to suggest this was a factor in the collision.
On the day of the collision, Escondido Avenue was closed in both directions until approximately 7:00 am from Marketplace to Hollister while investigators collected evidence and interviewed witnesses. The Hesperia Station, Major Accident Investigation Team (MAIT) is continuing their investigation. Anyone with information regarding the collision is asked to contact Deputy Dustin Whitson from the Hesperia Sheriff's Station at (760) 947-1500 or email [email protected]
