DATE/TIME: August 17, 2020 / 11:38 A.M.

INCIDENT: Grand Theft Auto

LOCATION: Yucaipa Blvd. and Avenue E, Yucaipa

SUSPECT: Samuel Tapia, 29-year-old resident of Perris

SUMMARY:
On August 17, 2020, at approximately 11:38 am, Yucaipa deputies were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of Yucaipa Blvd and Avenue E. The green Pontiac sedan bearing a Nevada license plate was stolen from the city of Perris earlier in the day and deputies found the Pontiac at the Mobil Gas Station at Hampton Rd. and Yucaipa Blvd. A male, later identified as Samuel Tapia, was standing next to the Pontiac pumping gas. A high-risk traffic stop was initiated, and Tapia was taken into custody without incident. Tapia initially provided a false name, but further investigation led to his correct identity.
Tapia was found to be on probation for Grand Theft Auto out of Kern County.

Samuel Tapia was arrested for Grand Theft Auto, Possession of Stolen Property and False Identification to a police officer and was booked at the Central Detention Center in San Bernardino.
