Santa Cruz County fire update at 10 am today, Aug. 19.
Yesterday there were 4 separate fires in Santa Cruz County that totaled about 2000 acres combined. This morning, all four fires have merged together and into 10,000 acres. The fire is currently burning in a southeast direction into Boulder Creek and towards Ben Lomond. Current information locates the fire at the Hwy 9 and Bear Creek Rd intersection in Santa Cruz County, about 3.5 miles from the Santa Clara County border. Predicted weather today and increase in winds could push the fire towards the community of Ben Lomond, Scotts Valley and the Santa Clara County line.
Santa Clara County Fire Department has additional 5 engines in service doing active patrol and officers assigned to the County Dispatch center and the County EOC. Due to multiple fires across the state, few state or local government resources are now available. Early notifications and evacuations will continue as a key focus.
Santa Clara County Fire Department coordinates with Cal Fire, the County EOC, local law enforcement and fire partners, and Cal-OES. If the fire hits the Santa Clara County line, Santa Clara County Fire Department is preparing and planning to issue evacuation orders through the County EOC if needed.
Please check social media feeds and share them if possible. Santa Clara County Fire Department is pushing out information on a frequent basis to our communities.
