An Excessive Heat Warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures is occurring. Drink plenty of fluids, stay out of the sun, and remain in an air- conditioned room. Never leave young children, disabled or elderly adults, or pets in unattended vehicles. During hot weather, car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. If you must work outdoors, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool, shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
