It’s Always Good to Be Prepared

Our thoughts continue to be with everyone who has been impacted by the California fires.

Although there are currently no evacuations in place for Sunnyvale, and no immediate threat to residents, the fires burning throughout California are a reminder that it is always important to be prepared for an emergency in the instance you may need to evacuate your home for any reason.

Here are some simple steps to take to help prepare for emergencies:

Make a Plan. Your family may not be together if a disaster strikes, so it is important to know which types of disasters could affect your area. Know how you’ll contact one another and reconnect if separated. Establish a family meeting place that’s familiar and easy to find.

Prepare an Emergency Supply Kit and a “Go-Bag”. Here is a list of Ready's recommended items https://www.ready.gov/kit.

Stay Connected. The County of Santa Clara uses AlertSCC to send emergency notifications to residents. These alerts include evacuation orders. To register visit www.alertscc.org or text your zip code to 888777.

Santa Clara County also offers a “ReadySCC” App that can be downloaded to your mobile device. ReadySCC is an interactive app you use to create an emergency supply kit, stock food and water, first aid kits, go-bags as well as store critical information such as out-of-town contacts and meet-up locations for family members.

Our Office of Emergency Services preparedness page also offers a variety of resources to help you begin your preparedness efforts, https://sunnyvale.ca.gov/government/safety/emergency.htm.

We know that's a lot of info to take in, but little preparedness steps will make a big difference in the instance of an emergency that may impact you directly.
