Crime Alert Bulletin for the week of August 10-16, 2020

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Notable Cases

On Monday 08-10-20 at 3:23 a.m., Officer Premenko and Officer Gill were dispatched to the area of Longview Drive and Skyline Drive on a report of two subjects trying to get into vehicles in the area. Officer Premenko was at Skyline Drive and Crenshaw Drive when he found a subject sitting in the backseat of a 2016 Lincoln Navigator that was reported stolen in Millbrae. The subject in the backseat of the car gave the officer two names of the other subjects who were in the vehicle, and Officer Jackson-Berrios found one of the subjects nearby. Officer Sunga found the other subject on Longview Drive near Skyline Drive. Officer Premenko subsequently arrested the female subject, a 29-year old East Palo Alto resident, for vehicle theft, possession of a stolen vehicle, providing a false name to police officers, and for an outstanding warrant. The second subject, a 36-year old San Mateo resident, was cited for possession of burglary tools. The passenger, a 42-year old Modesto resident, was released.

On Monday, 08-10-20 at 4:19 p.m., Officer Hightower was dispatched to King Plaza on a report of subject who exposed himself in front of two people at the laundromat. Officer Hightower found a subject matching the description, and the subject admitted to masturbating. Officer Hightower booked the 41-year old transient subject for indecent exposure.

On Wednesday, 08-12-20 at 1:40 p.m., a 40-year old San Francisco resident was the victim of vehicle theft after the suspects took her vehicle that she listed for sale. The victim called a day later to report the theft, as there was a language barrier, and she had not yet registered the vehicle. The victim said she bought a 2013 Honda Civic LS approximately two weeks prior and decided she did not like the vehicle and posted it on Craigslist. The victim said a subject, who didn’t identify himself by name but only by his telephone number, said he wanted to purchase the vehicle in cash. The victim met with the subject and two of his friends (a male and female) at her house on the 100 block of Hillcrest Drive. The victim agreed to let the two males test drive the vehicle, and they entered the Valero Gas station on Mission Street. The victim said the subject wanted to check on the gas and asked her to assist him in opening the gas tank. The victim exited the vehicle and walked around to show the driver where the button was for the gas tank, and she said the subject then took off northbound on Mission Street. The victim attempted to report the vehicle stolen at the time, but she was unable to as she was not the registered owner. After visiting the DMV, the victim was able to make a stolen vehicle report. The victim described the first male subject as a black male in his 30’s with a muscular build, possible tattoos on his right arm, wearing a neon orange/green construction-type vest. She described the other suspect as a black male, mid 20’s, with a skinny build. He possibly had tattoos on both of his arms and also was wearing a neon orange/green construction-type vest. This investigation is continuing.

On Saturday, 08-15-20 at 6:23 p.m., Officer Cain and Officer Kett were dispatched to Mission Street and Citrus Avenue on a report of an auto burglary in progress. The reporting party saw a subject with two crow bars who shattered the rear window of an Audi. The reporting party said the subject fled the scene in a white Ford SUV. Officer Chittenden saw the vehicle on northbound Highway 280 and attempted to make a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield and accelerated at a high rate of speed. The victims said they were out of state in California on vacation and rented a 2020 Audi Q7. They made expensive purchases at high-end stores in San Francisco and stopped to shop on Mission Street. They were in the store for less than 30 minutes and came out to discover the rear window of the vehicle shattered, and all six suitcases, along with their recently purchased items, were missing. One of the victims had an iPhone in the suitcase and was able to track it back to an address in San Francisco. San Francisco P.D. responded and found the vehicle and property possibly belonging to the victims, but not the recently purchased items. San Francisco P.D. said the vehicle was involved in multiple burglaries in their city.

On Saturday, 08-15-20 at 12:41 a.m., Officer Premenko was dispatched to the parking lot of City Toyota regarding a suspicious male wearing pajama pants walking in the parking lot. Officer Premenko said the subject was standing with both of his hands up in the middle of the parking lot. The subject told the officer he locked his keys in his car. Officer Premenko approached the vehicle and saw miscellaneous items throughout the car. The subject told the officer there was a handgun in the vehicle, and Officer Premenko could see a pistol with the barrel pointing towards the driver’s door laying on the front passenger seat. After patting down the subject to make sure the subject did not have weapons on him, the officer asked the subject to permission to enter the vehicle. The subject allowed the officer to search the vehicle, and the officer found a glass pipe and suspected crystal methamphetamine. The 31-year old subject said he traveled to California from Las Vegas and realized he did not have a working phone to navigate him home. The subject said he went to the Toyota parking lot to try to find a security guard to assist, and he ended up locking his keys in his vehicle. Officer Premenko arrested the subject for being a drug addict in possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity magazine, possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), and for possession of narcotic paraphernalia.

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access to a neighborhood if they don’t live there. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try! www.nextdoor.com
